How to have a perfect Sant Jordi in Barcelona's Eixample

If you're wondering how to spend Sant Jordi in Barcelona without spending the day elbowing through crowds, the answer has been in Eixample all along. This year, 23 April falls on a Thursday — which means the neighbourhood celebrates the way it does best: slowly, warmly, and with the whole city out on the streets.

Here's how we'd spend it, start to finish.

What time should you start Sant Jordi in Barcelona?

Early. Faire. Brunch & Drinks on Carrer de Girona opens at 8:30 every day. That's not a soft opening — the kitchen is running, the coffee is in, and the sourdough from our neighbours at Eric & Benjamin (@lepaindericbenjamin, Carrer del Consell de Cent) is already on the table. If your person isn't an early riser, stop by their bakery first and bring something warm home. Come back to us when the morning has properly started.

There is something genuinely good about Sant Jordi in Eixample before the stalls fill up. The light in these streets in late April at 9am is worth getting out of bed for.

Where are the Sant Jordi book stalls in Eixample 2026?

A short walk from Faire, the Superilla Literària returns for its fifth consecutive year. Hundreds of book and rose stalls across 3 kilometres of streets, traffic gone, the whole centre pedestrianised from morning until evening. The route runs along Passeig de Gràcia and Rambla de Catalunya, with the streets between them — Diputació, Consell de Cent, Mallorca, Provença, Rosselló, Còrsega — all part of it.

Worth noting: this year the main axis has shifted away from the Rambla (still under construction) onto this Eixample spine. Which means the best Sant Jordi in Barcelona is happening a short walk from Faire's front door."

Walk, pick up a book, pick up a rose. One of the most elegantly considered gestures in existence — a book for someone who thinks, a rose for someone you love. Ideally both go to the same person.

Also worth a detour: urban artist TV Boy — who designed the official Sant Jordi 2026 posters — will be painting a live mural at the junction of Ronda Sant Pere and Passeig de Gràcia between 12:00 and 15:00. Unexpected, free, and not on most people's lists.

Where to get a gelato on Sant Jordi

Just across the road, our neighbours at Laboratori Burgetti (@laboratorioburgetti) have created something lovely for Sant Jordi — special rose and raspberry gelatos, made fresh from carefully selected local ingredients. The kind of small neighbourhood gesture that makes a day. And there's a free baby cone of rose gelato!

Go. You will be glad you did.

Where to have brunch in Barcelona on Sant Jordi

Back at Faire, the kitchen runs until 15:30. A good brunch in Eixample on Sant Jordi with nowhere urgent to be is a very fine thing. We're at C/ de Girona 81 — a short walk from the Superilla, which means you can drift in between book stalls without planning anything too carefully.

The Eggs Benedict Supreme is a reliable call. So is the Açaí Bowl if you want something lighter after the gelato. The sourdough toast, as always, is worth ordering on its own.

Faire. Brunch & Drinks is open every day from 8:30 to 16:30. See the full brunch menu here

Where to have dinner and natural wine in Barcelona on Sant Jordi evening

Sant Jordi doesn't have to end at sunset. Faire. Tapas & Wine opens at 17:00 at C/ de Girona 79 — next door, same street — and there's something right about closing the day over a glass of something good.

Our wine list is entirely natural and biodynamic: Human Vins and Democratic Wines, both local, both made with some attention to the land they came from. The modern tapas menu changes with the season. Right now: Paella de Primavera, Burrata Hibiscus, Creamy Pasta with Lemon and Sage Oil. The kind of evening that makes you glad it's a Thursday.
